1 fire was discovered at about 2 ft'olock yesterday morning in the bunkers of a vessel in Wellington. Aβ soon as the. outbreak was noticed the officers and crew of the vessel attacked the fire, and in less than two hours, as a result of the sErcmious effort, all dtuiger had been averted. •VESSEL AT LYTTELTON ON FIRE ■ 3y Telp"".n;ili--l > ve«i Association. Gradually the vessel listed over to port, and eventually she nank in 33 feet of water. Tho vessel is held to the jetty by wire ropes, and is in aii upright position. All the vessel's papers have been saved. Apparently the lire started in the middle hold. It is believed, that, ithanks to the quantity of ballast in ]ior unci the thickness of her timbering, ■the vpssnl'i hoVl is nnt greatly damaged, and that she can be refloated and repaired without any extraordinary degree of trouble.
