WAR RELIEF NEEDS
LOCAL APPEAL NEXT YEAR
The public will be asked to find more money for the'Wellington'AVar Relief Association during-'the coming year. The association has'at present about£76,ooo cash and' investments, and other sums bring its total assets to £78,612. But during tho year ended November 30, 1917, the association's expenditure amounted to £11,090 6s. <xl., and the income, including subscriptions and interest 011 investments, Teached a total of £8009 16s. 10d.,' leaving a balance to he made j-ood out of capital of £3080 ■ 9s. Bd. " "It should, be remembered," states tlie-'association in it^--annual report, "that our organisation ivill -bo called upon to disburse moneys for many years after, tha war, and wo must, therefore do what. we can to keep our' finances in as sound a position as-pos-sible. Tho committee hopes that tho public .will continue to tako an interest jo the work of the association and givo freely of their surplus mouoys. All the - moneys that will be forthcoming ■will he wanted, and will be carefully administered." Members of the association stated at the annual meeting yesterday tiiat an effort to raise funds would bo made during the coming .year. . The association desired to raise year by year during the war the money required for ■expenditure) in thfit year, in order that the capital sum now in.hand might be retained for tho " pressing ' necessities, that would arise after the conclusion of peace, when demobilisation had bepun and thousands of men were returning to civilian life. It would be essential then, moreover, to have money in Jiand for permanent allowances in somo cases of disablement and to certain classes of dependants. ]
