SOME TRAGIC INCIDENTS
Halifax, December 11. Nino ships were Wrecked or driven aground as tho result of the tidal wave caused by the Mont Blanc explosion. A wall of water twenty feot high swept the waterfront, and sixty-five stevedores engaged on tho Furness-Withy Wharf were drowned. A tug was lifted to the top of tho pier and the crow escaped uninjured. Thirteen , men who were rigging warships weKe blown into tho water and drowned. A worker engaged on another pier felt a shed on the pier tromhle, and slipped under <v beam of wood. When the wave engulfed the pier he clung to the beam until ho was rescued. Six men along' side him wore killed. One hundred and eighty-eight mon who wero working in a dry dock were caught by the swirl of water which fell over the sides of tho dock, and, all were drowned'. A, steamer which was entering the harbour during the tidal wavo rammed another and ran ashore. A,shell fell in front of the house of Captain Kendall, the ex-commander ct tho ill-fated Empress of Ireland, ana buried itself in the ground without exploding. Captain Kendall escaped with, a few cuts caused by broken glass. A soldier working in the ruins found his own baby alive; later lie discovered his wife and five other children dead.—■ Aus.-N.Z. Oablo Assn. A SPY PIGEON CAPTURED. Halifax, December 11. K carrier pigeon has been captured, having beneath its wing messages in German, details of which have been withheld.
