ONSLOW BOROUGH
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
The Onslow -Borough Council met on Saturday evening. The Mayor (Mr. J. M. Dale) presided; and there were present also: Councillors J. C. Gardiner, A. B. Tapp, E. G. Tucker, C. Bowden, E. A. Budd, W. Appleton, and G. F. Hodgson. Mr. J. G. Smith suggested that a bathing pool should be made, and that it should bo regarded as a memorial to the men who had fallen at the front.
The engineer, reporting on one site for a pool, said that the cost would be £60.
Councillor E. A. Budd said' that such a bathing pool might be the nucleus of suburban baths, but. the first thing should ho to secure the land. If a pool was established rn .private property trouble might arise at some time or other.
Councillor G. F. Hodgson moved that the councillors of the Khandallah ward should bo a committee to go into the matter.
Finally it was resolved that the councillors of the wards be committees to go into this ijuestion, and that the Kaiwarra.Committee have power to spend up to £50 on a bathing structure on the Kaiwarra foreshore.
The Town Clerk of Wellington notified that Onslow's request to have the street lights in the borough switched off at midnight had been granted. This will reduce the oost from £3 10s. to £3 por lamp per year. ItVas resolved to ask the City Council for a rebate of £48 on accounts due for water.
