Acceptances for t*o Taranaki Jookey Club's Christmas Meeting close on Friday next.
J. W. Lowe, with his team for the Auckland meeting, leaves here on Thursday next.
Good entries have been received for the various events at the Marten meeting, which will tako place on New Year's Day. Tho following hbrjce have been nominated for tho Harton Cup, one mile and a quarter:—lmpediment, Multicipal, Ladoguer, Crowhurst, Namar, Kobleiuan, Client, Lady Qoneral, Centre,' Potentiality, Sloightof:Hand, Mascot, Square Deal, Gold Boult, Dribble, Eude; Bronk Delaval, Bangitero. An extraordinary happening occurred at the Canterbury Park meeting, which took place on December 1. Owing, it is eaid, to a drain bursting, the lacing track subsided, and the stewards wero compelled to abandon the last race of the meeting. The fields were so big during the day that two of the races had to be run in divisions.
Evidently it is intended to race Gamecock in the Great Northern Derby, for the Champagne Stakes winner has lately been worked over a, distance tho reverse way at Eiccarton.
Mr. W. G. Stead's horses Sasanof and Sweet Corn were racing at Canterbury Park on.December 1. The Melbourne Cup winner won the Flying Handicap, rlx furlongs, but the price he started at did not suggest that his trainer fancied his ehancea. Sweet Oorn -was in the market for tho Canterbury Park Handicap, one mile and a quarter, but third place was her portion. Both animals wero riddeu by the oraok horseman, J. Piko.
Tho Endeavour Lodge team which raced at Woodville last week were under tho care of H. H'Sweoney. Tho well-known horseman will take Exclusive and Matilda to the Walrarapa meeting for J. W. Lowe.
Botanist, who has beon lacing disappointingly of late, -will probably do the West Coast meetings at Christmas. Other North Island horses engaged at the Ooast flxtnres are: Pall Mall, Arihia, Bose Pink, Skedaddle, Amity, Kiltess, and Canadian Turf.
Sir George Clifford ha? sold the three-year-old Claverhouee, by Aptagoni6t—Scottish. Star, to the West Coast sportsman, Mr. P. Donnollan, in whose colours he will race at the Greymouth meeting. Claverhouse has shown himself a smart galloper on the training tracks, though his racing form is moderate.
The Riccarton contingent for the Auckland Cup meeting—Gamecock, Long Ran?e, Fiery Grose, Glendowcr, and perhaps Wre3tler—leave on Wednesday.
Tho following horses have been nominated for the President's Handicap at tho summer meeting of the Hawke'e Bay Jockey Club:-Slcjghl>of-lland, Potentiality, Flash Lady.
