WELLINGTON NORTH SEAT
QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES
COLONEL HUGHES RETIRES
It is now announced that LieutenantColonel J. Gethin Hughes, D.S.O.j has decided not to contest the Wellington North seat, on account of medical advice to tho effect that it would he wiser in tho interests of his health for him to withdraw from the contest. ■
An interesting question has cropped up regarding the election. Tho question has been as to whether tho election should bo conducted on the old boundaries or on the new boundaries as defined by tho Boundaries Commissioners a few months ago. It is understood that the Department is noti prepared at once to say which boundaries should apply for the purposes of the election, but tho preponderance of opinion is that the old boundaries should apply. In the case of a general election the new boundaries will certainly have to bo observed.
