EMPE.KSS THR.\TEK. Gail Kano has been provided with a poworful rolo in "Whoso Wife?" the murder mystery drama, to bo screened at tho Empress Theatre to-day. It .is described as a story of extraordinary strength, having a plot that is boldly original. The heroine, deserted by tho elderly rouo whom Bhu had been persuaded .to marry, and hearing that ho is drowned, marries again. Tho first husband returns, and manages to inveigle the woman away. Ho is attacked by the husband of. ono of his former victims, and kills him. Ho is tracked and arrested for murder, and then hie unfortunate wife is put in a predicament. If sho. appears to help his plea, of solf-defenco her chances of happiness a.ro ruined, and also thero faces her the terriblo temptation to allow him to go to his doom. The acting throughout tho play is sa-id to bo of a high standard, end tho shipboard end Argentine scenes remarkable photography.

ORCHESTRAL CONCERT. An orchestral concert in aid of tho fund for a now kindergarten building whs given in the Town Hall Concert Cnambeilast night. A pleasant programme was submitted, b>t tne attendance unfortunately woe not large. A lull orchestra, conducted by Mr. Harry Tombs, gave as its chief number Haydn's iymjjhpny in D Major, and did justice to this beautiful composition. Tho tragedy overture iKeler Bela), and threo bracketed, numbers, tho intermeizo from .'-Naila" (Leo Delibcs), Minuet d' Amour (F. H. Uowan), and "Arlequin" (do la Haye) wero also played by tho full orchestra. Beethoven's aumtet for piano and wind instruments was given by Mrs. L. Watkins (piano), Mr. W. 1' Ward (clarionet), and Mr Leon Cohen (oboo), Mr. W. J. Hariand (bassoon), and Mr. G. G. Schwartz (horn). A violin solo, the meditation ' from "Thais" (Massenet), was contributed by Miss Anderson. The instrumental portion of the concert was supplemented b,v Mr. Sigurd Leatrup, whose attractive base-baritone was heard to pood advantage in tho recitative and cavatlna, "Lα Reina de Saba," '0, Gounod),, and tiro vigorous songs of A. Mallinspn, "Slow, Horses, Slow." and "Wβ Sway Along."
