NEWS FROM NEW ZEALAND FRONT
CANADIAN TRIBUTE TO OUR GUNNERS. ' (Special.—From the Official War 'Correspondent.) The New Zealand Artillery has received the thanks of a Canadian General for their excellent work while attached to one of the Canadian units. Tho General Officer Commanding the Canadians has awarded the Military Medal to the following:—Bdr. A. Ashworth, Gnr. G. C. Girdlestone, Bdr. E. W. Moore, Bdr. W. Maudsley, Gnr. P. Murphy, Dvr. R. P. Sperry. . The Military Medal lias also been awarded to the following:—Gnr. P. W. Tyne. Sergt. A. C. Hall, Corpl. T. Kirton, Dvr. A. E. Edmonds, Sergt. W. Birnie, Gnr. H. H. White. The artillery have recently been busy on one sector of the German front. On ono day their shooting was particularly effective. In one part of the line, where tho enemy had gathered in considerable force, they must havo inflictod at least two hundred casualties. Shells were seen by the forward observers to burst among clusters of infantrjr, and their stretcher-bearers were very busy for some time afterwards. One shell burst right in the midst of a group assembled near a shattered building, killing and.wounding several, and scattering the rest. Later, when they had reassembled in the same place, another shell landed at tho same spot, inflicting further casualties.
