WE MUST FIGHT ON

THE WAR OUTLOOK REVIEWED SOME DISTINGUISHED OPINIONS New York, November 28. The New York "World's" London correspondent sends striking interviews on the general war outlook. Lord Sydenham says:—"Tho recent events on the Italian front falsify tho calculations as to tho duration of the war. No doubt Austria longs for peace, but the events in Italy liavo revived Germany's ambitions. Nothing but the disillusionment which failure on land and Rea alono will bring will forco Germany and her _ subservient vassals to propose a basis of peace which the Alließ can accept. Russia has temporarily ceased to be a fnctor in tho war. The best wo can hope is that tho Italian line on the Piaw will be held; otherwise we must fall back to tho Adigo. It is tho Allies duty to save Italy. A vast worldissue may mainly depend on the efforts of America. Germany's economio position is bad, and Berlin regards the winter with an anxious look, as there has been heavy mortality among German civilians, owing to malnutrition. Rut wo must not abate our efforts. America represents reserves of tremendous potentiality in the closing phase of the war. When one thousand American aeroplanes are on tho West front, and a similar number reinforco tlm Italians, the end will bo in sight. Viscount French says:—"lt is essential that tho Allies shall forego all thought of peace, and concentrate on a more vigorous prosecution of the war. ' Admiral Cyprian Bridec. said that, he could sec no prospect of the war ending in loss than two years. Admiral Henderson says:—"ln my opinion, no hopes of peaco can bo entertained prior to December, 1D18."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
