MASTERTON NOTES
At the Masterton Patriotic Shop on Saturday last a sum of approximately £275 was raised by the people of Kopuaranga, Mauriceville, and surrounding districts. The Native meeting at Te Ore Ore was attended by a number of leading chiefs from the Waikato. After a sejries of patriotic speeches had been made, the Waikato Natives showed a distinct disposition to provide rccruits for. service abroad. The following additional resolution was passed at the reunion of the Post , and Telegraph Officers' Association in Masterton on Saturday:—"That this seotion affirms the priuciple maintained by conference that in view of the numerous legal technicalities arising in connection with Public Service . Board appeals, a Stipendiary Magistrate be appointed chairman of the board." The Thirty-fourth Reinforcements infantry cricfiet. team, captained by C. S. U. Caygill, defeated Masterton on Saturday by 140 runs to 67.
