THE SHORTAGE OF MINISTERS,
By Toksrrapli—Press Association. Dunedin, November 23. Tim Presbyterian Assembly to-day resolved to appoint a committoo to report on tho question of increasing tho .smaller snlnries of ministers. It was stated that a number of ministers were receiving only £200 per year. Tho beneficiary funds were discussed and recommendations regarding .annuities agreed to. It was decided that tho ■committeo slioultl flontinuo to comploto tho canvass for the fund, nnd that the amount received bo added to tho Ministers' Widows' And Orphans' Fund. Tho Assembly decided to open corrospondenco with tho Rev. _J. Harry Miller and others with n, view to arranging ,a deputation from them to tho Dominion after the war. report to be made to next Assembly. It was stated that "Xnonymous"'hnd mado a donation of £200, and it might bo possible to sccuro three men. Tho Homo and Foreign _ Mission reports wero considered to-night. It was decided: "In view of tho international situation, the Assembly advises the Homo Missions Committeo to continue its, efforts to find temporary supply for stations, so that as many agents as can bo spared may bo freed to takepart in the conflict for liberty and human rights." It was resolved, in view of the shortago of men for tho Ministry, to enjoin ministers and agents to bo insistent in bringing the claims of the ministry boforo congregations, and to take steps as soon as tho war was over to secure a supply of ministers nnd homo missioners from churches in tho Homeland, and to instruct tho Homo Mission Committeo to submit to next Assembly a scliemo by which effect might bo given to the proposal.
