MONOWAI OMITS DUNEDIN. On hor' arrival at Lyttclton on Sunday morning from WollinEton the Monowai will reniivin in port until Wednesday afternoon, when eho will sail for Wcllinnton. The vessel will sail at 5 p.m. on Thursday next for Naplor, Qiabornc, and Auckland, receiving cargo until 3 p.m. The Monowai is duo here from the north on Saturday morning, and will sail In the evenine for Lyttelton. The vessel is one day late in her running.

The Wootton will sail at 5 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton, and ie due back at Wellington on Saturday.

The departnro of the Magic for Korth Cape will be delayed until three able seamen can bo eiirned on. in the place of thosp who left tho vessel at Wellington. Tho Ngatoro will not sail from Greymouth for Wellington until sometimo today. The Kamo is due on Friday from Dunedin, Oamaru,, and Timaru. She will load general cargo hero for Greymouth, and sail on Saturday. Tho Tainui is duo to-morrow from Wanganui and will return in the afternoon to that port. Cargo will bo received until 3 p.m. News received from Melbourne, states that to cnablo the ehimnont of goods to be more closely supervised, % in view of recont fires and explosions on vessels, after leaving Australian ports, amendments havo been made to tho War Precautions (Shipping) Regulations. It has been provided that goods must not bo shinned from any port in the Commonwealth without a permit in writing of a Customs officer. A further provision is that an officer of Customs may require any skipper, supplier, or packer of goods delivered for shipment to furnish a statutory declaration stating that the l * goods have been packed under efficient and trustworthy supervision. A mossagc from New York says that Mr. Daniels (Secretary of the-Nnvy) has announced that important progress has been made with inventions against euhmarinee, in connection with which 40,000 suggestions have been received.
