CAMP CANTEENS
UNDER' MILITARY CONTROL.
The canteens and also the hairdiessing saloons at Featherston and Tauherenikuu Gamps were taken over by the Defence Department yesterday, and will be run in future by the military staffs. The controlling committee consists of Captain A. Fairburn (president), Major H. R. Ryder, and Captain R. C. Smith. Tho institutions are to bo run in the inleicsts of the soldiers. The men have been informed that no cash will be taken at the counters of canteens, d'ining-rooni, or • hairdressing saloons at Featherston or Tauherenikau Camps. " All payments will bo made by tickets, which will bo sold in tho ticket stalls at the entrance doors of canteens, where tickets can be purchased either for the exact amount required or in cards of twelve tickets, 2d. for 2s„ 3d. for 35., ■Id. for 45., Gd. for Cs., or Is. for 12s. Tickets of higher values are also available for larger individual purchases. All ranks, it is urged, will lind.it a convenience and time-saver In purchase cards of. twelve tickets. No salt will be made for less than 2d., or/yany amount which includes one halfpenny. Holders of unused tickets can have the value refunded at the ticket stalls before leaving camp, but tickets are not transferable, and sales outside ticket stalls are prohibited. This order, does not prevent soldiers treating each other or visiting friends to refreshments. This system will obtain at Featherston and Tauherenikau, where all tickets aro interchangeable. The cash counter will bo continued at Papawai.
No civilians will be served at any of the canteens, dining-rooms, or hair-dress-ing saloons without producing a permit .signed by the Camp Commandant. This, however,' will not prevent soldiers entertaining visiting relatives and civilian friends to refreshments or meals at the dining-rooms or canteens. All ranlcs have been warned that it is a serious offence to make purchases at the canteen? on account of unauthorised persons. This will not present a soldier making purchases: for his own family living outside the camp.
