FATAL CASE IN HAWKE'S BAY.

Cases of infantile paralysis in the northern part of Auckland province have been notified recently to the public health authorities, states the "Herald" and Dr. J. T. Hushes, District Health Ullicer, spent a week in visiting the infected localities, which are chiefly in (ho Otamatea Conntv. It is stated that the cases reported have often followed ft somewhat unusual form. In some the onset has been marked by tho patient suffering from malaise, or a general feeling of not being well, also from hoadnono and pains in tho neck and back, with gastro-inlestinal disorder. In some cases these symptoms liavo rapidlv passed, leaving the child weak, but with no parol™. Actual paralysis has not been ??° ,°,< t! J?m C " lof ojmptoms. The District Health Officer states that no eases had been reported from tho northern districts smco October 27, and it Fcemcd as if the spread of the disease had been stayed by tho precautions taken.
