ELECTRIC SHOCK
MAN INJURED IN ADELAIDE EOAD,
;. The Wellington tramway authorities r : are at present substituting the span eys- . tern of overhead wire suspension for centre poles. Whilst working on the top or one of the poles in Adelaide Eoad at ■ about 10 a.m. yesterday one of the electric lighting staff named Charles Stowart, came in contact with the wire, receive., a sevore shock, and fell on the trade with some foroe. It was at once seen that Stewart was in a bad way, and he was removed to the Hospital, where his , injuries were attended to as far ns hitman skill would permit. The injured man was reported last evening to have ininroved a little, but the extent of his inj'nries had not been definitely ascertained. He is a married man residing in Cuba Street, . . . Ordinarily, the electric light wires are securely insulated, and save when tho ' insulation is worn out may be handled ' fairly freely, but in this case Stewart must have come in direct contact with the tramways high voltage wire whils* ■■ on the pole, and so made contact with the earth. When renairs ore made to the tramways wire; tbe' staff see to it that they only handle the wire from the insulated platform wagon. It has been suggested that Stewart, when seated on ' the cross-bar of the iwlc may have overbalanced himself slightly, ami in order ' to save himself, grasped the tramways . high voltago wiro..
