THE CABINET VACANCY
HE. T. M. WILFOED APPOINTED.
The Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. iW. F. Massey) informed a Dominion reporter yesterday that Mr. T. M. Wilford had been appointed to the Ministry to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Dr. 'M'Nab. Tho nomination of a successor to Dr. M'Nab was the privilege of tho Liberal leader (Sir Joseph Ward), and tho announcement of Hγ. WilfortTs appointment means that Sir Joseph Ward's nomination has been considered accoptdblo to the Eeform section of the Cabinet. Mr. Wilford has bcon in Pnrhamont ■since 1899. Hβ was actually elected member for Wellington Suburbs in 1896, but 'the election was declared void before Mr. Wilford had taken his _ place in the House. At the succeeding election he ■was again returned for this eeat, but nt tho next election following ho chose toi contest the Hutt seat. Hβ was successful, and he has held the seat ever ■since. In the House ho has held tho position of Chairman 'of Committees, and In local politico he has held the office of Mayor of Wellington. In tho Cabinet he ie to hold tho portfolios formerly held by the Hon. Dr. M'Nab—Justice and Marine.
