Derby. Crib broke a email bono above one of his knees, when ho fell at Iticcarton, and it is fcarod that his raoing days aro over. If Biplane's time in tho Linlithffoiv Stakes is corrcot it qquals the Australasian record jointly held by Jtontcalni nnd Portrush. The first-named put up the time in the Doncaster Handioap and Portrush in the Epsom Handicap. Mr. T. H. Lowry, with £2705; headed the. list of winning owners at Eiccarton. Tho Messrs. Eiddiford came neit with £2075, and H. B. Troutbeck followed with £1720. The Invercarglll-owned Eorko's Drift is in a clas3 by himself in Southland, but he regularly fails' at Biccarton. Last week he stripped in perfect condition, but in each of his races he was found wanting. , ■ The Martian-Lovelorn filly,, and tho colt by Martian-Grand Opera, which .brought 675gns. and 1025gns respectively at the yearling sales last Thursday week, were purchaeed on Mr. Q, D. Greenwood s b'ohalf by Mr. J. Campbell. When 0. Subterfuge was tho unlucky performer at Eiccarton. Tho daughter of Counterfelt ran a close second in each of her threo starts. ! 0. Emerson had a great innings at Eiccarton last week,'his -record for the three days being five wins, three seconds, and four thirds. Next on the. list of successful horsemen came A. Eeed 4, H, Gray 3, and G. Clarke 2. Quite the disappointment of the V.R.O. Meeting was Lanius, who failed to run up to. expectations. He was made a very strong order for the ■ Melbourne Cup, but could finish, no nearer than seventh, while on Saturday ho was unplaced in the 0. B. Fisher Plate. , • - Mr. E. E. D. Clarke, who is at- present fishing at Eotorua, was represented by a winner at Flemington on 6at/urday, when Deneb carried his colours to victory in the Final Handicap. Deneb is a fcur-year'-old sister to Three, who used to race in New Zealand. Excellent acceptances have been received for the Aehhurst Meeting, which takes place on Wednesday of next week. With fine weather, the meeting promises to be a highly successful one, and the club, will soon again be occupying the prominent position it -did prior to being -wiped out. The Awwrani mentor; Jas. Hathaway, suffered a stroke of ill-fortune last week when he lost a foal from the brood mare Heather. ' A Melbourne -writer states that M. Hobbs intends settling in Victoria. The Wanganui owner, Mr. A. Hall, -was so disgusted with the recent showings of Moulu.that he sold him for 50gns.
