SHIPMENT OF IMPORTS
PERMITS FOR ESSENTIALS,
The Department of Munitions and Supplies has dealt with 3MO applications to dato for permits for priority of shipment of goods to New Zealand to an approximate value of .£1,390,000. • The Minister in oharge, the Hon. Arthur M. Myers, stated to an Auckland "Herald reporter, that of these applications 3405 lind been certified to, 25 were under clerical action in the office, and _10 wpro under consideration. From advices which tlio Minister had recently received from tho United Kingdom and from Australia, he was approheijsivo of tho difficulties ill scouring goods being increased, proTided that war conditions continued to provail. Fortunately representations which had been made by him on belialf of the New Zealand Government to tho Ministry of Munitions in the toited Kingdom, through the High Comm. 6sioner, had in tho majority of cases^ produced satisfactory results. , Since America had declared war on (Germany, tho United States authorities had sot up a system under which the . Minister anticipated they would in fnturo request him, afi Minister in Charge of Munitions and Supplies here, to comment on or certify to orders f-nm New Zealand.
