ONSLOW BOROUGH

MEETING- 01.'' THE COUNCIL. Tim monthly mooting of tho Onslow Borough Council was held on Saturday evening. Tho Major (ATr. ,T. M. Dale] presided, and thoro wero also present Councillors l'l. A. Budd, E. Hobbs, 0. Bowden. E. G. Tucker, A. B. Tnpp, and A. W. I'almor. A statemont was submitted showing the •expenditure on tlio roads in tho several wards as follow:—Khandallah, ,8200 15s. Id.; Ngnia, £159 Bs.; and Kaiwarra, ■CIBB 6s. 6d. The statement of defence in connection with tho injunction sought by the Attor-noy-Gcneral to restrain tho Mayor and council from leasing tho oatchment area for grazing purposes was approved, and Mr. P. Levi was appointed to dofond tho action on bohalf of tho council. Mr. IT. Bardslcy, of Ngaio, wrote offering metal from his qnary for metalling Albert Road, Ngaio, provided tho council onens tho quarry. It decided to refer tho matter to tho engineer and road foreman. Tho Disinfectant Special Committee set up at the previous meeting reported that tho committee had selected a ; certain disinfectant, and recommended that cifrlit 5-gallon drums ba obtained from tho 'agents at the prico of fe. Bd. per gallon, and that, tho disinfectant be distributed among tho storekeepers in the borough for sale on certain conditions. Tho report was adopted. A license to store kprosnno was granted to Mr. Femmel, storekeeper, Ngaio. Tho engineer in his report stated that it had como to his knowledge that owners of motor-cars and motor-cycles were storing petrol without liceneo, and ho recommended that an inspection should be made. After a desultory conversation it was decided to adoot the enginepr s report, but that tbe inspection of tho storage of netrol bo not dealt with. Mr. M. P. Cameron wrote jffering to provide an lionomvs board to record the names of tho soldiers from Khandallah who bad left on activo service beyond New Zealand. The council accepted tho offer with thanlce.
