It is understood that many of .the com- , panies are • notifying their dissent fi»m the wages and conditions proposed, and 'ttie matter will probably -come before a Conciliation Council. Boddio presided, and there was a fairly large gathering oE faxmers and city business men. In proposing the Uoast of the evening tho chairman paid a high tribute to Mr. Eoss for the part he had taken in promoting the interests of the farmers. The magnitude of the '■undertakings which he represented was '.indicated by the facts that during the second year of its existence the Trading ■ Company had n. turnover of .£250,000, 'and the Fertiliser Company was making a capital expenditure In plant and buildings of .£150,000. Both concerns would exert a powerful influence as they stirnii- • ' Jatcd commerce and added to production, lltr. Eoss said he was proud of his con'nection withi tho Farmers' Union, Tiie, Trading Company and the "Fertiliser Comnany were offshoots of that body. 'He believed the farmers would shortly conduct all their own business, and handle all produce from its source of origin till it reached the consumer.
