TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD
The Wellington Technical Education Board n\et last evening, l'resent: Messrs. G. Frost (chairman), C. M. .Luke, T. Ballinger, W. H. Bennett, .H. M. Gore, L. R. Partridge, T. Forsyth, A. Atkins, and G. L. Stewart.
The chairman mentioned that the (Education Board was arranging for another deputation to wait upon tho Minister of Education regarding the urgent need for new buildings for tho AVellington Technical School. Ho thought the gross inadequacy of tho accommodate at present available might fairly be brought under tho notice of tho Efficiency Board. The position was not creditablo to ffell'iugtoh' or to tho Dominion. . Mr. Forsyth and Mr. Luke reported on their work as members of tho visiting committeo since the last meeting of the board, and suggested certain improvements in the class-room 6.
A letter was received from tho Public Scrvice Corami6sionor 6tating lie had ujider consideration the desirability of limiting the appointment of junior mechanics and junior mechanicians to boys with technical school education. Tho boys would bo required to attend classes and to qualify in specified subjects.
The mattor was left in the handa of the chairman and the director (Mr. La Trobe).
It was decided that the certificates won by students of the college at tho annual examinations should be distributed at a public gathering on December 12. The annual exhibition of work would bo held on the tliree days following. /
This afternoon Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool will open St. Paul's parisE I)azaar, which wil) be held in St. Andrew's Schoolroom, The- Terrace. Tho stalls have been extremely well supplied with all kinds of articles, useful and ornamental, and tho sewing is said to be ono of tho features of'tho bazaar. Contributions of cakes and sheets will fie very gladly received. 1 • The Misses Veitch, who have returned from Australia, will have the sweets stall in connection with tho Mercer Street Day at' the Red Cross-Shop next month, auu The many buyers of 'these' popular home-made sweets will again have the' pleasure of obtaining them. They, are most-suitable for sending to the soldiers, anil greatly enjoyed by them and sought after. A very enjoyable dance to celebrate tho "breaking-up" of her dancing classes was held in -.St. Anne's. Schoolroom, Green Street, last evening, by Miss Siino.u. There was a large attendance of pupils- and friends, and the hall lmd been very effectively decorated -with (lags, ioliage, and large bowls of arum infos'.- The stage had been made a comfortable sitting-out place for tho chapcrones, amoug whom were included Mrs. 'Simon, Mrs. Duncan, Mrs. M'lfitosh, ills. <?uayle, and Mrs. Robinson. Excellent iniisic for the dancing was played by Mr. Stewart, and Miss Simon did all that was necessary, to secure the enjoyment of tliose present. Supper was laid in an adjoining room, the tables having been arranged with white and red roses and grasses. Altogether a very successful evening resulted.
