• FOOTBALL "SOCIAL." The annual football "social" 111 conneotion with the Boys' Institute was held at tho institute buildings. Tha Itoyal Life Saving Society, Wellington Amateur Swimming Association, and Wellington Football Association woro all represented. Sir. G. Troup, president, complimented tho boys on what had been the moat successful season over participated in by tho Boys' Instituto Football Club. Not only had the team won live cups and finished runners-un in three other cups, but tho members had! displayed a splendid sporting instinct and had conducted themselves as became tr.uo sportsmen. Tho following contributed items during the ■evening:—Miss Clark (soprano), Master Koith Thomson (recitation), Master Jack Williams (recitation) 11r. G. Peek (humorist), Mr. AY. G'nurch (baritone), Mr. S. Peek (humorist). The aocompanist was Miss M'lCeon. Tho following toasts were honoured:— "Tho W.F.A.," Mr. F. Ross, replied to by Mr. A, Williams; "Kindred Clubs," Mv. Banks, replied to by Mr. W Auld. Mr. L. T. Wntkins, in proposing tho toast, "Our Boys at the Front," mentioned that over 150 names had been traced, although a great cumber morn must have gone from the instiLuto, while ten had made tho supreme sacrifice— Liouteiinnt"-W. S. llopkirk (instructor), Harry Field, William Belsham, William Jennings, William G. Drummond, George Weston, Jainea Grant, George Bruce, Private Whitburn, Privato Burgess.
Mr. T. Ronayne, 1.5.0., presented tho following long-distance swimming certificates:—Josepli I. Whittington (.1988 yards), John Gilmore (3720 yards), Cyril 11. J. Bortlett (3520 yards), Wallace R. Kelly (3520 yards), -William D. Hickling (3520 yards), Christian Busterholz (2300 yards), Arthur K. Tarrant (2833 yards), Thomas Clements (1(126 yards), Roy Arnold . (1793 yards), Victor T. Graham (17513 yards), Alexander 'Winter (17G0 yards), Henry ]?. Darkin (1760 yards), Harold' Newman (IGOO yards), Frank Cook (JOOO yards), Sydney 11. C. Piper (1000 yards), Bernard G, Pipor (533 yards), Raymond C. Day (76G yards), Angus M. Moora (300 yards), John Ford (300 yards), Frederick Sage (266 yards), Alfred E. Darkin (233 yards). It was pointed out that the Boys' Institute had established a New Zealand record by gaining the largest number of distance swimming certificate;? of any school, club, collego, or institution in one year. Mr. G. S. Hill, chairman of the Royal Life Saving Society, presented U silver medallions to the members. Mr. Hill pointed out that the boys had all gained first-class passes, and that it was the biggest tlass of eilvor medallions that had passed at ono time. The institute members also created a New Zealand record by winning in one year 110 elementary certificates, 106 proficioncy certificates, 27 bronze medallions, I t silver medallions, and two teachers' certificates, iu al( 259 awards. The following 'were the names of tho boys who gained the medallions, the possible number of points being 110:—A. H. Tarrant, 107 points; William C. M'Gill, 105; A. V. Boss, 101; W. Hawke, 101; E. Pearpy, 100; H. Hanson, 96; P. J. Coleman', 95; N. T. H. Bing, 94; C. Ilusterholz, 91; E. W. Woolcott, 94; William Gilmore, 92; Thomas Colitmb, 90; W. F. C. Marple, 89; C. Bartlett, 88.
Tho following football irieVlals were awarded:—Sixth B Championship: K. Gibson (captain), L. Barker (vice-cap-tain), E. Worth, L. Johnson, W. Nicol, J. Cunningham, ,T. Banks, D. Buchnall, G. Gill, A.
