THE BIG MEAT MAN OF CHICAGO
AKMOUB'S PATRIOTIC WAR OFFER. An Ulster newspaper, which has recently arrived by the mail, makes tha rather surprising statement that Mr. J. Ogden Armour, president of the great meat-packing firm of Armour and Company, of Chicago, is by birth an Ulsterman. His name has been very often mentioned in the recent debates in tho House and elsewhere on tho threatened invasion 1 of the country by the American Meat Trust, and he has been spoken of and thought of as something very far removed from a Britisher. This paper, the "Tyrone Constitution," says that he was the son of a Presbyterian minister of a place called Drumquin. The item in the Irish paper proceeds: "The managing director of the firm, Mr.\ •T. Ogden Armour, in keeping with tho Ulster spirit of his forefathers, has offered himself and his great meat-pack-iiiff business at Chicago to tho American Government, absolutely without reserve, for tho prosecution of the war. 'I will tell you what I think.' he said at a meeting of the packers, 'the Government of the United States can have Armour mid Company, the Government of the United States can liave .T. Ogden Armour, the Government of the United Plates can have any man or any group of men nf Armour and Conmanv. As a nn'inn we ''nve staled all in this war, and we shall win or lose all.'"
