END OF THE SESSION
f &ir,—Uenernl regrot will, 'I think, be lelt at the Prime Minister's announcement that the Registration of Business -Names Bill is not likely to be proceeded with this session. The Bill is much needed and overdue. Its abandonment, too, would bo somewhat out of harmony with the Government's recently-expressed intention of dealing more firniiy with tho alien enemy question. AntT the Maori War Medals Bill and the Temporary Employees Bill should also bo put through now. Both are Short.. Both are absolutely non-conten-tious. Neither involves any but tho niost trifling financial outlay, which could be much more than provided for by confiding tho proposed Civil Service bonus to those not in receipt of not more than .'.£220 per annum, tho figure approved by public opinion nnd opinion in the House. .Moth Bills, too, rectify grave injustice's, nnd, as such, should not bo laid ou ono side, oven in a war session. Indeed, as regards the latter Bill, tho existenco of a dtato or war, with its inevitable increased cost of living, is a further reason for its being placed on the Statute Book this session.—l am, etc., VETERAN. October 2*. 1917.
