'SIBVWRIGHT,' JAMES, & NICHOL. Dunedin, October 23. [Enclosure.] September 26, 1917. The Hon \\. Fraser, . Minister of Public AVorks, . Wellington. 11E NITK.ATES PROPOSAL. .
Sir—Our attention lias been called to the statement made by you in the House on Jhuisduy, September 20, that "tho company was obviously an American concern." There is no doubt in leading your remarks that you intended to refer to the syndicate for which we act, and on whoso behalf we applied to you for concessions. AVe desire to give' vour statement an unqualified denial, and to express our surprise that you should have gone out of your way to give publicity to such a damaging statement. ~ihe syndicato has alwuyß considered that the capital could and would be raised m Now Zealaud, especially .amongst the farmers. If, however, all cfiorts to raise the capital in New Zealand should fail, there is abundance of capital oll'oriug in England. We trust you will see your way to apologise publicly for the unwarranted statement above referred to. AA'e have tho honour to be, sir, Your obedient servants, SIKVWEIGHT, JAMES, & NICHOL.
