SETTLER KILLED ON THE KAIL- . WAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. v Hokitika, October 25. A shocking fatality occurred, at- the railway station shortly after the arriyal of the evening train. During shunting operations Lawrence Sullivan, a retired settler, from South AVestland, over seventy years of age, was foundVun over. The tody was terribly mutilated. Deceased was seen on the railway platform shortly before, and it is inferred that he was taking a' short cut across the railway line to his residence near-by. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family, and was well known among graziers of Cook liiver. A son is serving with tho Forces. • FOUND DEAD. Pahiatua, October 25. Thomas Rock, a single njan, ft£red about 23 years, was found dead in Cashin's stables this morning. Heart failure is believed to be the causfc of death. Decensod was lately employed on a farm. His mother lives at Hastings. ,
