A Russian official report stoics: "After a bombardment by destroyers, the Germans landed on Wcrdor Poninsuta (on the mainland), on Sunday, pressed tack our advanced posts, and ocoupied the western part of tho peninsula. THE BATTLE OFF OESEL ISLAND Pstrograd, Ootobar 22. Details of tlio Oesel Isltind na-val bfittle show that the destroyer Grom was holed in twenty places, and was Boon a sheet of flame. She continued to fire until every gun was out of action. She fought at short range, and when the crew abandoned the vessel an enemy torpedo-boat attempted to tow the Grom awny. A Russian sailor in tho torpedo chamber who Btill survived made a heroic effort, and launohcd a- torpedo, which blew up the German torpedo-boat. Tho two vessels sank side by sido. According to refugees from Oesel, the Germans placed Russian prisoners in boats, saying: "Get off to Bussia. Wo have nothing to feed you with."
