AN ACCOUNTANT ARRESTED. • By Telegraph—Press Association. \ 'Gisborne, October 18. lAs a sequel to an outbreak of fire in the offico of the Gisborne Gas Company early this morning, police investigations, •ajre understood to have shown that the string-room door' was wido open, and inslide two ledgers were propped open wilSi tarred'slicks. One of tho ledgers was! recovered partly burned. Tho safe wasf also found open, and the contents dis?pranged, and a fairly considerable sum of money was missing. • Later, Detective M'Leod arrested the company's accotHitoiit, from Paroell, who was brouijcht beforo the Magistrate and charged with arson in wilfully setting the. promises afire. The police wore granted a remand for a week. Accused was admitted to bail, in self .£IOO. and sureties for a like amount.
