TRAGIC END OF AT,TOE AND CLAUDE ASKEW. (Rec. October 15, 5.40 p.m.) London, October It. Tho well-knoivn authors, Alice ami Claude Askew, have been killed through an enemy action at sea.—Renter. [The Askews are widely and popularly known lo tho public by their cnfprlaining novels, written always in collaboration. Claude Askew was the second son of (he late Rev. John Askew, M.A., and his wife, Alice, was ihe only surviving daughter of the lute Colonel Henry Leake. They aro survived by two children. a son and a daughter. Their literary earcer began after their marriage, I heir lirsl; book, tho "Shnlaniite" (1901), being dramaliseil in 190(i tiud produced at
Mm Savoy. A successful series of liovris followed, as well as short stories and serials in tho mngnzincs.l
