Li CHAPLAIN'S VIEW OP THE WAR PROSPECTS.
(B.v Tclcsrmh—Snecial Correspondent.! Wannanui, October J5. Chaplain-Captain Blamires,. who has just returned to Wanganui after two sears' active service, 6aid that although t(io end of the war had been held back Iby Russia's internal troubles the horizon was pow much brighter than it was twelve months ago, and all along tho hundred miles held by the British they ■were winning. In conjunction 'N'™' their Allies thero was no thought thai, wo should bo pushed back, but a strong tonvicßou that wherever wo decided to {push wo could win. Tho cost of rapid pushing was expensive, and our leaders •were conserving their forces end strength. "Wo have beaten the Germans ou the Wost front," continued the Kpbaker," and ' the only question is: •When will they ' acknowledge their defeat?" Proceeding, Captain Blamires .contrasted the conditions in B/ritain •and franco and in Germany. Last 'winter was on© of the most sever© ex[pcrienccd in Britain and Franco for jnany years, "but tho conditions in G&rmany were infinitely worso. O.ur men wore better fed than the Germans, and if the latter held out .they were going ."to have a bad winter. Without attempting anything in the nature of a definite .prediction, ho believed that tho tho northern summer, when America ,would bo ready to add her . full weight to tho strength of tho Allies, would sec "the end of tho fighting.
