ALSACE-LORRAINE GERMAN FOREIGN MINISTER WILL NOT CONCEDE REICHSTAG'S ATTITUDE Amsterdam, October 10 Speaking in the Reichstag, He'rr Kuhlmann (Foreign Minister) declared that there was only one answer to the question: "Can Germany in any form make concessions regarding Alsace-Lorraine?" The answer is "No! Never so long as a. single German can hold a gun. The integrity of territory handed down to us as a glorious inheritance by our fore, fathers can never bo the object of negotiations or concessions." It is rumoured that a majority in the Reichstag favours tho formation of Al-sace-Lorraine into a monarchical federal State, with a Parliamentary guarantee.— Router. a statementlhaTmay prolong THE WAR BRITISH LEADERS' OPINIONS ON KUHLMANN'S ATTITL'EE. October 12, 7.30 p.m.) London, October 11. ■Mr. Lloyd George (the Prime Minister), replying to a deputation, said that he could not think any statement was moro calculated to prolong the war than Herr Kuhlmann's declaration regarding AlsaceLorraine. However, as long as the strugglo lasted, Britain intended to stand by France until she had redeemed her oppressed children from the degradation of tho foreign yoke. Mr. Asquith, speaking at Liverpool, stated that the dominant factor we had to deal with was not German public I'piniou or Parliament, but the German Government. "The world," lie said, "will never find the way to peace through its morass of equivocation and ambiguities. Plain questions have been asked, but studiously evaded. MICHAEUS OUT OF PUBLIC FAVOUR PRESS SUPPORTS KURLMANN, (Rec. October 12, 11.15 p.m.) Amsterdam, October. 12. A wireless message 6tates that the German papers, commenting on the Reichstag peace debate, contend that the nation is unanimous that Von Kiihlniann is the only possible Chancellor. The Cologne papers consider that Dr. Michaelis should take the hint and retire. The paper adds: "Everything at tho present moment depends upon tho way in which' our foreign affairs are handled. The Reichstag, after a stormy sitting, voted the Supplementary Budget, both Socialist groups voting against it. This means that Dr. Helft'erich will remain in office.
