. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the l'oung Women's Christian Association was held in the association • buildings, Herbert SJrcet. last evening, and was presided over by the Hon. J. G. W. Aitk&i, M.L.C. Associated with him upon the platform were Mrs. U. i Pearson (president), the Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke), Mrs. M'Clay, Miss Birch (general secretary), and Mies Lawson (treasurer). There was a very largo attendance of members of the association, including members of the board, Tho annual report (published in yesterday's ■ issue of The Dominion) and • balance-sheet were presonted, and in moving their adoption Mr. Aitken congratulated the association upon the k'roat advancement which was shown in all directions by the report, that of increased .membership and increased financial returns being very worthy of note, and the accumulation of moneys for the building fund particularly gratifying. Ho considered they woio very fortunate iideed in .having so admirable n secretary as Miss Uirch, who slrove all she could for the advancement of the association. They also had a. fine band of ladies fur tho board of directors, who gave n great deal of their time-and attention to tho work of the organisation, and as for Mrs. Pearson, he considered she was a modol president. Under such circumstances it was hardly surprising that the association showed such progress and such' alertness. Mrs. Pearson seconded tho adoption of the report and balanco-shect, and said she considered that they had just ended a wonderfully prosperous year, for vhicb they were greatly indebted not only lb the board of directors, Miss-Birch, and other ladies, but. to a great number of Iho girls whose, spirit of co-operation and interest was a great spur to the work, to say nothing of the assistance of tho many sub-committees. She IhouPfit that tho ■Wellington association al (he present timo had tho greatest membership of the Y.W.C.A. in tho Dominion, owing to circumstances more or less caused by the war. To Miss Birch they owed a great deal, and her quiet: canvass of Iho country for funds.for the building fund had been most successful. Nor could the quiet, unobtrusive, and steady -work of Miss Lawson be overlooked. "While Miss 'Birch was away Miss Lawson had indeed kept the "home-fires burning." • Airs. M't'lav also spoken appreciatively of tho work done by .Mr. R. H. Webb (honorary solicitor). Mr. Morpeth (honorary auditor), tho Press, and the clergy, and tho I'iotion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet wivs carried: Voles of thanks wore passed to Mr. Aitken for presiding. In Mrs. Luke for her presence when tliorc wero so many demands made upon her time, and to Miss Birch for her most valuable services to the association. Tn reply Miss Birch spoke of the extensions of the work which it was hoped would be carried out later on and of Iho departure of Miss Williams for Invercargill, where she will act as general secretary to that branch for some little time, being "loaned'''owing to't'ho illness of the Invercargill secretary. The election of the board of directors left the personnel entirely unchanged save for tho addition of Mrs. W. A. Evans, M.A. Apologies for absence were received from Miss M.'Lean, M'r. Hoby, Mrs. Low, Mr. and Mrs. M'Kerrow, Mrs. Bulkloy, Mr. Pearson, and Mr. Bennett.
