COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS'-EFFORT
The good work of tho Commercial Travellers' Club in raising money for patriotic Tunas is well known, and tho success of to-day's surpriso packet movement in the interest of the New. Zealand Blinded Soldiers' Hostel seems assured. To-day and to-morrow 60,000 Is. packets will 'bo sold,' and the sum of JE3OOO will be devoted to tho hostel 111 So largo was to be this effort that lo do it justice the "C.T.'s" circularised merchants in all 'centres of New Zealand, ana bv vesterday the number of prizes- wanted-60.000-had been received and had been tastefully arranged m tne ffarlioii'' Board's "M"' shed, on Jervois Quay. The work of decorating the build-ing-"with flags, etc., was done by employees of the Harbour Board, nndor tho direction of Cantain Munro, and last night some of'the.prizes were on exhibition. The exhibit comprises erocery, clothing, fancy goods., etc. Iho prize of the ereatest value is a section of land, valued at .£l2O, in the best part o Uhandallah, and the buyer of this ticket will receive the tifV deeds free of any charge. A visitor fo the "store" is most impressed by thn 'largo stocks of tea cn<yi. ? . cr/nwd fruits, patent foods, and medicines, 2olb. bags of flour, 50 suit lengths women s , wear, boots, shoes, and polishes, antimony and silver ware two vacuum cleaners. Singer sewing machine, W0 sacks of potatoes, pearl pendant, coffee urn, a tvpewriter, inlaid wood, jewelcase, a tvpewriter, mandolin, perfumes, tobacco and pipes. 400 rolls of. music suite of furniture, three-and-sixnenny novels, etc. Everything is brand new and i* tV promoters guarantee, worth not less than sixnence. No tickets v-ill be sold until this morning, and (he articles named on them can be had on applying at the shed. An efficient staff will be distributing the orl7.es, and evrvthing has been arranged for smooth HHrht Hon. W F M»ssey visitecf the shed, and in a short speech T-marked that the display was for greater than he had expected. Blind soldiers, he said were deserving of the best, and he could only* vnsh the dub the .success which was due to it. Sir Joseph Ward and Mr. ,T. Colvin MP.,i saw the display, too and snoke in high terms of the work the Commercial Travellers' Club had done and Were doing.
