"SPLENDID CONDUCT"
I'RENCH TRIBUTE TO OUR TROOPS. In the Houso of Representatives last evening the Minister of Defence (Sir Janies Allen) read the following letter addressed on July J l, 1017, by Divisional General Anthoine, commanding the First French Army, to Marshal Sir Douglas Haig:—■ "Dear Marshal,—At tho moment when the Now Zealand troops are preparing to leave the First French Army I feel impelled to acquaint you with the splendid conduct of all the British troops which : you have been good enough to place at' j my disposal. Infantry battalions, engi- j neer battalions, and labour companies ■ have vied with each other in displaying ardour in the work and in good behaviour. 1 ' . , ."I thank you very sincerely for the ; valuable help they have afforded to the j First Army, and I should bo glad if you j would be good enough to convoy to them this expression of my satisfaction.
