ACCOUNTANTS' SOCIETY
WELLINGTON BRANCH MEETS,
The annual meeting of the members of the Wellington branch of the A en- Zealand Accountants' Society was held last evening. Mr.'J. S. Barton presided, and there was a fair attendance if members. Mr. H. A. Gold stated that Mr H. I>. M'Kenzie, a member of the society, who was formerly in the service of Messrs Aitken, Wilson and Co., had recently died, and on bis motion it was »^'« l 1 to send a letter of sympathy and condolence to the mother of the deceased The chairman mentioned that Mr. C. B Robinson, another member of the society, had been ill for some time, and had'not been out of bed for the past two months, and he thought it would be a graceful act on the part of the society to place on record its sympathy with Mr Robinson in his illness and hopes for his speedy recovery. He moved in that-direction, and the resolution was unanimously adopted. . The chairman stated that meetings of the branch ceased in l»H.>rf inst prior to that it was found that members. were not taking any interest m the affairs -i the branch, and wben the war broke out the meetings ceased altogothP" s\ — ings had been held this year. The mem bers were brought together m Auguat on the occasion of Mr. Hemingways visit to the city, when he read _ a paper on the Taxation Bill. A fortnight ago Mr. H A. Gold read a paper, and on that occasion there was a very good atfenrinnce of members. At that- meeting also there were present several members of the Chambers of Commerce, and it was suggested then that joint meetings won d be beneficial, and it has been decided to carry out the suggestion. A joint meeting 'would be held in about a fortnight when matters of general interest would be/ submitted for consideration. Wit respect to finance, he said 'the branch received ..€9O odd from tho parent society, and the expondihiire was restricted to* JBSO rental. ,£2O donation to the Accountants' Student Society, and sundry small amounts. Tho report and statement of accounts were adopted without discussion The election of officers re.-jiUpd as under:-Committee, Mc«rs. J. S Bartoß, TT A. Gold, and C. M. Bowden (cxoffieio as members of the council of the parent society), and Messrs C. H. TTawson. E. P. Lambert, F. H. Bass and J. S Dav ('elected members of the en»>m'il tee); aud'tors. Messrs. E. R-. DymocE and James TCollow. /' . This concluded, the general business. Mr J. S. Day, town clerk. Eastbourne Borough, then read a paper on "Ferry Steamer Accounts," which members -found to be interesting. Mr. C. M. ■Bowden read a paper entitled Some, Notes on Bank Exchanges in Relation to New Zealand Trade," a very tl™#ful and instructive paper on a difficult subject. '
