ALIENS AT LIBERTY

THE CONDITIONS OF EREEDOM. Alien enemies are the special hobby of certain members of Parliament, one of whom is Dr. Thacker. In the House vesterday he submitted to the Prime Minister the following resolution carried unanimously by the Christchnrch Returned Soldiers' Association: "That this meeting of Christchuroh returned soldiers wishes to enter its protest against the Government allowing enemy subjects to retain their liberty in New Zealand." Ho asked the Prime Minister whether he .was not aware that there was keen activity in certain matters in New Zealand. He produced also a pencil, marked "Made in Bavaria," and also 'Tvew Zealand Government." _ __ . The Prime Minister said, that if the honourable member would p»6s the pencil over he would inquire when the New Zealand Government acquired it. Regarding tho general question, he Baid that if the honourable gentleman knew s of any alien who had been guilty of any disloyal act, or any disloyal saying, and if ho would give information to any member of the Government, the honourable member could bo assured that the matter would bo inquired into, and if the law had been broken the offender would have to take the conscquences.
