RETURNED SOLDIERS
, The interest which a large section of the public has shown in the Returned Soldiers' Club is indicated by the annual report of the institution laid before members at the general meeting last evening. The club has had a successful year in all respects, and those who have assisted to strengthen its finances and to extend its usefulness may well feel satisfied with tho result. It : s estimated that over 3000 returned soldiers have availed themselves of the benefits which the club offers to returned men, and no doubt this, number will be greatly added to with the increasing numbers of men coming back to New Zealand from service overseas. Tho wiso provision made for having a civilian committee associated with tho soldier mombers in the control of the club's affairs has proved the complete success it was expected to be. The civilian members are all wellknown citizens of standing in the community, arid they give >an assurance, if such were-needed, that the general conduct of the club's affairs will bo on smart and business-like lines, and that the funds contributed by citizens and organisations desirous of assisting the club will bo put to the best possible use. Tho internal detail management of tho club, which rests mainly with tho' soldier members of tho committee and the club's officers, has won tho warm approval of the civilian members, and their hearty commendation, based as it is on a close acciuaintancc with inside conditions, should strengthen public sympathy with the institution and win for it fresh supporters. The club is serving a useful purpose and is well deserving of encouragement and support.
