OLD NAVAL RIFLE CLUB
The annual meoting of the Old Naval Dcfenco Itifle Club was held at the Naval Boat Station, when thero was a fair ntlendanco of members.
The annuni roporf, which was adopt ed, showed that although tho club was placed ill a very awkward predicament for their shooting competitions last season, interest in tho various matches was not lacking. Tho club at tho beginning of tho season .unanimously decided that tho cash value of all prizes competed for lio given to a patriotic fund, Find that the winners accept certificates in lieu of the actual prize, nnd at the close of tlie reason the club, had pleasure '.in handing to the Behiraed Soldiers' Club-Il.ousD Society Fund tlie sum of iCI2. Since tho outbreak of tho war the club has had a largo percentage of the original membership go to tho front, and much regret the loss sustained V-v the death of one of the vice-patrons, Major A, G. Hume, who was always a very staunch supporter of tho club. He and two other members of the club—Lieuten. ant L. Hugo nnd Lieutenant 11. J3. Voyce—were killed in action. The l-al-ance-slieel, which was adopted, showed the financial position of tho club to bo satisfactory, a credit balance being carried' forward to next season. Votes of thanks were accorded the Petone and Suburbs Clubs for the /use of their ranges on various occasions. Olio election of officers for tho ensuing jear resulted as follows:—President, J. liabej deputy-president, W. Harris; patron, Colonel John Duncan; vice-patrons, Major Menzies, Colonel C. Cooper, Colonel Hume, Major A. S. Biss, Captnin E. I). Bell, Major E. Davy, Lieutenant M. E. Denniston, Hon. C. ,T. Johnston, M.L.C., Messrs. J. M. Morice, C. Hotlder, and A. Moore; hon. secretary, Rifleman F. E. Franklyn; l'cn. treasurer. Rifleman J. Alexander;- committee, Biflemen R. C. Collins, R. Pringle, F. Standidge, T. Dell, and P/ M. Campbell; auditor, Rifleman ,T. tilaydon; Selection Committee, President Babe, Deputy-President Harris and A. Fellows; delegates to Rifle Union, Riflemen Pringle, ,T. Alexander, and F. Standidge. During the evening tho clnb took the opportunity to make presentations in recognition of services rendered to Rifleman J. Alexander and Rifleman E. Franklyn, who have now been elected hon. treasurer and hon. secretary for the fifth successive year. .
