A HAWKE'S BAY GIF! , . Some months ago the Napier and Hastings Red Cross Society forwarded a donation of .£IOOO to the French Red Cross. The money was 6est. through the High Commissioner, who has forwarded the following letter lie received in reply :—"Dear sir,—l am in receipt of your loiter of July .5 enclosing cheque for £1000 as a donation from the Napier and Hastings Red Cross Society to tho funds of the French Ked Cross. The soldiers of the British Empire and of France are fighting side by side to the ultimate victory and for the defence of our country. Close as were the ties between tho two nations the war alono has revealed the depths of affection one for the other. Nothing has brought greater comfort and inspiration to our eoldiers and to our .'people than the sympathy of the British Empire for our sick and wounded men. I beg of you to convey to Mrs. Lowxy, of Hawko J s Bay, New Zealand, my sincere expression of thanks for this magnificent contribution, and through lier everyone who took part. I speak m the name of our Red Cross and of every man who will benefit from this donation: I enclose my London Committee's official receipts, inth renewed expressions of thanks.-I am, dear sir, yours truly (Spd.) Paul Cainbon, French Am. bassador."
