WAR FUNDS COLLECTING COMMITTEE

A combined meeting of the Inner Executive, Direct Appeal Committee, and conveners of the sub-committees in connection with the Our Day Red Cross appeal and blind soldiers and sailors was held last evening in tho, Red Cross rooms, Mercer Street. His Worship the llayor (Mr. J. P. Jjnke, C.M.G.) presided over a. very enthusiastic meeting. Reports o® the various sub-committees were presented showing that the energetic work which was being done ensured the various days being a huge success. A report was received from the committee in regard to Paddy's Market, which is to be held in the Town Hall oil Soptember 28 and 29. About twenty stallß have already been applied for and allotted, inoluding flowers, fruit, secondhand clothes, second-hand goods (including jewellery, silver, and pewter ware), home-made cakes, doll stall, refreshment stall, hot pies and coffee, produce, meat, fish and chips stall, and many others. Tho Entertainment Committee also reported , that various entertainments, lectures, ,-eto., had been arranged for, and dates/were now being fixed.. Mrs. Luke reported that she had called a meeting of the Citizens' Service League for Wednesday next, with a view of soliciting further help for the worthy cause. A picture valued at 100 guineas has been presented through the Ladies' Catholic Knitting Guild, to be disposed of by art union. The picture is now on view at the Bristol Piano Co. The 6ale of tickets will be ill the hands of the Ladies' Cutholic Knitting Gnild. The following are the stallholders, who are working very hard to make Paddy's Market a big success Flowers and fruit, Mrs. W. H. Cox; home-made cakes and jams, lady workers of Commercial Travellers' Club; sweets, Miss Una Carter; refreshments, Wellington Citizens' Service League; fish and chips and fresh fish, Mrs. Hall-Thomp-son; second-hand stall, Mrs. Wilford and Mrs. A. E. Pearce; jumble stall, 6ns Company office staff; dairy produce, Miramar Eed Cross_Guild; flowers, Miss Wills; peanuts, Spinsters' Club; hot pics and coffee, "Charley's Aunt" Club; any article a shilling, St. John's Brigade; doll stall, Mrs. Gibbons; variety stall, Seatoun Red Cross Guild; produce stall, Women's Christian Temperance Union; toys a»d general, Wellington Industrial Association; second-hand clothes, Mrs. H. Rose.

The committee will be pleased to receive donations of produce, frllif, flowers, and goods of all descriptions at their office and rooms, 31 Hunter Street.
