NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME
London, July 19. Sir Thomas Mackenzie was present on Monday at the dinner to Mr. Lewis Hind at the Imperial. Major John Uurgess (Serbian rank), late of Wellington, has left for France to ntisist in organising a hospital tor trench repatries. Dr. George Gower, who was in charge of Hamilton Hospital, is on the ■staff at Brookonhurst. His wife is driving an ambulance at the same hospital. Mr. and Jit's. W. H. Holmos, of Auckland, with their two daughters, are for a time at Shenperton, where they nro near ono of their 6ons, now unfit for active service, who is on tho staff at Oatlands. Major Tudge, of tho Salvation Army Emigration Department, sailed from Vancouver on July '1 for Australia and New Zealand to inquire into the Army's afterwar plans. At the conclusion of a comprehensive tour lie will report to Commissioner Lamb in London. Mr. L. Holden, of Te Arolia, after working for twelve months in Woolwich Arsenal, has been accepted by tho New Zealand Y.M.C.A. Commissioners io do voluntary work with tho Zealand troops in tho front line trenches in France. Mr. Holden was with the NewZealand troops in Egypt for seven months. The King has accepted several cases of New Zealand apples, presented by Sir Thomas Mackenzie, on behalf of Mr. 1\ G. Duncan, of Otago. Two cases were also presented to Queen Alexandra by the High Commissioner. Sir Uighton Piobyn has written to Sir T. Mackenzie thanking him on behalf of Alexandra for tlw presentation speaking in the highest towns of the apples. Her Majesty says: "The fruit is a credit to the I Dominion."
