THE EFFICIENCY BOARD
LABOUR. WANTS ItEPEESENT.\TIO>. r :
A request was made in tlio House of Representatives yeitorday by Mr. M'Combs that Labour should be represented when the Efficiency' Board was being reconstituted. .Mr. AL'Corabs asked Hint llio Oiovoriunent should not only appoint Labour representatives to tho hoard, but should allow Labour bodies to choose their own representatives. Mr. Massey said tliat Labour bodies had littlo ground for complaint on account of tho constitution of boards that had recently been sot up. Labour was hilly represented on the Board of Trade, and thor'e was a Labour leprcsenlatjve on every Military Service Board. Nor had they any ground for complaint asto the constitution of tho Cost-of-Living Committee. The honourable member was. of course, very hard to satisfy, much harder to satisfy than the people lie represented. TTo could not agree to the proposal to allow members of Labour bodies to choose their own representatives. It whs the duty of the Government to select members of boards, and it could, not delegate that fluty, or divnst itself of responsibility.
