ASSESSMENT COURT
By Telegraph—Press Association. Taumarunui, September 10. Tho Assessmont Court sat to-day to hear about one;hundrcd and fifty objections to tho borough valuations. Mr. Eawson, S.M., was chairman, Mr. Campbell, Government assessor, and Mr. J. Slattery, borough assessor. Mi-. Mays, solicitor, represented the Land Board, also the Valuer-General on law points; Messrs. Strang and Shortland, appeared for objectors, .and Mr. Phillips watched, proceedings on' behalf .of the Otovohanga Town Board..-
Coutts, valuer, deposed' that he had made valuations on the basis of rents and sales of property. The Grosvenot property, owner W. Thomas, was taken as a typical case, Bib capital value of which was raised from £3000 .to .£6432. The owner objected to tho amount of ttio unimproved value. Tho case was argued all day an 3 until late to-night.
Tho decision of the Court in iho teal cose was a reduction of 10 per cent, on tho unimproved value. , The objectors declined to .accept this as general. All iho cases will l>o fought on their moril*.
