ENGINEERS' DEMANDS
BEFORE CONCILIATION COUNCIL,
The Conciliation Council yesterday considered the demands recently made by the Amalgamated Society "of Kngin'eers and tho counterproposals made by the employers. The Commissioner, Mr. W. E. Hagger; presided. The assessors were: For the society, Messrs: ■Adam.Black, H. Fisher, and H. N. Scroggs;'" for the employers, Messrs. A. C. Mitchell, W. Crabtree, and B. E. Stonebanka.
A number of applications for exclusion from tho list of parties cited was dealt .with.
Mr. W. A. Grenfell, representing tho employers, nrged that motor mechanics and 'tin-pinto and steel-metal workers should not be included in tho now award.
Tho Commissioner said that lie would ask the Court to direct him in. regard to tinsmiths and inetal-workors, but not in regard to motor mechanics, who wore included in -tho last award made by tho Court. He would, however, note the objection lodged.
Mr. W. Wells, on' behalf of electrical workers, protested against tho inclusion, of an electrical section in tho new award. Decision .upou tho point raised was reserved. '
In tbo course of tho day, an agreement upon several minor points was arrived at, but not upon tho important questions of w.ages and' apprenticeship. Further hearing of tho dispnto was adjourned to Napier, where tho council will sit to-morrow.' On Friday thero will bo a sitting in Wanganui.
