The following statement, in regard to tho funds for the relief of distressed Belgians, is -issued on -the authority of tho Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal .Affairs. ' "The High Commissioner for i<ew Zealand, London, has advised that the United States Government accepted responsibility for liabilities incurred prior to taking over tlie relief of Belijhim. and that tho funds in hand should be he«\ for use at a later period. The iictuiif viceConsul for Belgium, Wenington, lias received official intimation that the lehel undertaken by the United States Government refers to food and elotlunt; for Belgians in area occupied by the enemy, and that funds lire required for other benevolent- pui-posos. finch ns Imiir A>liert's Belffiliu Orphan ]'iiml, Belßinn Babies' Fund, Belgian Refugees Tood Fund, and Belgians in Tlnglttiid Jieliet Pimd, etc., which are a<lminwterod_ by most responsible committees. Ponations io tht above-named funds will bo gratefully received for trausmisison to the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who ■will arrange distribution in accordance with tho wishes of the donors.
