CARGO FOR GISBORNE AND EAST ' COAST BAKJ. Messrs. Johnston and Co. state that, the Koutuuui is duo here on Sunday .from Napier, and will sail on Tueeday for Flat Point and Napier, taking cargo for those ports only. The Ripple will leave on Tuesday also, and take cargo for Akitio, Gisborno,' and bays north of Gisborne. The vessel will make a call at Pictou to load 2500 bags o£ oliaß for Gieboruc. On her return to Wellington the steamer will be docked for her annual overhaul, which should take aboflt a week. KAWHIA BA'K BEACONS, 'l'hc Marine Department has been notified by" the Kawhia Harbour authorities that, the Kawhia bar has shifted to the south, and the channel is now nearly the same as it occupied prior to May, 1910. The leading-beacons which were erectci in July, 1908, hare been established and painted white, viz., the front beacon on the rock oil South Head and the back beacon on the western extreme of Te Motn Island. These beacoue in line bear 121ideg. (S. 74deg. E. magnetic), and lead pver the bar in 17ft. M.L.W.S. The width of the channel is about 11 cables. The beacon on tho sandbank to seaward of Te Jlotu Island has been painted brown, and is not to bo used.' When about two cables inside the bar. vessels must haul one and a quartor points to the eastward, and continue on this course till outer point of South Head (UrawitiM Point) is abeam, then steer through the ccntro of channel between the Heads. VESSELS BAB-BOUND. Tho Mapourika was bar-bound at Grey, mouth yesterday, but was expected to cross last night, and leave this morning for Westpoit, Nolson and Wellington. The collied Pohcrua was similarly aflcctod.
*MESB TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. W. H. Brewer, of tho Wellington Steam Ship Company, will return to Wellington to-day from Auckland, where he, has been on business'for some time. Mr. John Briudle has heeii appointed harbourmaster and Custom's oiiicer at Hokiauga Heads, and pilot for the Port of Uokianga. Captain IV. Wahlstrom will leave by train this morning to rejoin the Invercargill at Waneanui. Captain C. Vendore, relieving master, will return to WeUineton to-day. The Invercarsill arrived at VTisaanui at 10 a.m. yesterday, and will leave this afternoon for Terakohe to load cerdeut for Nen Plymouth. The vessel will then-, return to Terakohe and load cement for Wanganui. The Ka.rnonaw.ie to have left Greymouth yesterday, with coal for Wellington. The Kokiri will sail-on Monday for Greymouth. The Blackball Coal Company's Ngaherc may possibly call at Wellington on Sunday from Lyttelton. The steamer is laden with coal, and from this port will leave for Greymouth to load for Wellington. The Cygnet arrived yesterday afternoon I from Kaikoura and berthed at Pctone Wharf to load a cargo of timber for cheese orates and. butter boxes, which will be delivered at Akaroa, for which port the vessel will sail on completion of loading. The Alexander will bo on the patent slip-. on Saturday for cleaning and painting, and will be ready on Monday to sail for i Nelson and West Coast.
The Wootton will arrive on Saturday from Lyttelton, and is to .return to that port on Monday. Tho Putiki is due on Monday from southern ports, and is to sail on Tuesday for Wangamii. Tho Huia will arrive early this morning, and will lcavo at 5 p.m: to-day for Wangsvnui and Hew Plymouth. *
The Wimmera is due this moraine from Auckland, Gisborne and Napier. She will leave at 5 p.m. for Lyttelton and Dunedin.
The Defender is to leave to-day for Picton, Greymouth and Hokitika.
The Storm ie due to-day from Wanganui to load for Lyttelton, Duncdin, and ximiru, sailing at 5 p.m. Tho Calm is duo hero on Sunday from Timaru and will leave on Monday for Wanganui. Some of the loss drifted ashoro on the Groat Barrier, but the greater number were found floating near where they were lost. The remainder are on tho Littlo Barrier, and will bo recovered later. . A private cablegram received m Greymouth on Thursday announced that a vessel, laden \ with timber from tho West Coast, was discharging at Sydney. •
During the month of August 172 vessels, with a total net tonnage of 124,115 entered the port of Lyttelton, as compared with 178 vessels, aggregating 152,211 tons, during the corresponding month of last year. The scheme for connecting up the three main wharves in Auckland by 'railway will be completed shortly, now that tho work has been commenced on the new Central Wharf. Tho laying of rails, etc., will take about throe weeks, and at the end of that time the Harbour Boards elaborate arrangements for cargo handling will be practically completed on the new wharf. The Central Wharf has already been used extensively by both and oversea' shipping. ■' The Himitangi will leave at noon today for Ohatham lelande (all porte). The Tessel will return to Wellington via Lyt. telton. _j"
