MOTOR CAR RUNS OVER BANK
OCCUPANTS ESCAPE WITH SLIGHT INJURIES. (Bv Telegraph-Special Correspondents Hawera, September 5. Mr. T. Harland, driver of one of tho Now Plymouth-Opunake juail motor-cars, and a passenger named A. Thompson, a returned soldier, had a marvellous escapo from death while driving from Opunake to Wanganui on Saturday, night. When passing Kai Iwi Hill at a dangerous point in the road the car skidded and went over a bank, where, after baclrin* a considerable distance, it capeiz«d. Both the occupants were rendered unconscious, bat fortunately they were thrown clear of.the car, for when Air Thompson, who was only stunnid, recovered about 1 a.m., some two hour* later, the- car was a smouldering heap of ruins, having ? caught • fire. Wγ. Thompson obtained assistance and Mr. Harland was taken to a nearby house, i"\: ter removed to Wanganm Hμrital! where he is now being treated for injuries to the neck and a hand. The deetroyed car ,vas owned by Mr. D. Wooldridge.
