ANOTHER INCREASE MADE. Increased Customs duties on cigarettes ( were imposed by the House of Representatives last night* tho proposals being introduced by Governor-Generals Message. The duties imposed when the Budget was introduced were revoked, and tho (following new duties imposed :-rOn cigarettes, not exceeding,in weight 211b. per 10(10, .£1 ss. 6d. the 5000. On cigarettes not otherwise emmier--ated, 10s. 6d. the lb. ... The effect of this amendment.is to in-! crease tho duty to approximately onei penny per packot, the amount already; added to the price by tho retailers.. Sir Joseph Ward? explained that tho change | would give' the Government. about t. .£BO,OOO additional revenue.
