At tho sittinc of the Second Canterbury Military Service Boaxd on Tuesday tho New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd., appealed for exemption for John Alexander M'Donald, engineer, on tlie company's auxiliary schooner Eunice. Evidence was given of -unsuccessful efforts having been made to obtain another certificated engineer with experience of oil engines to take M'Donald's place. If Jt'Donald were taken, tho Eunice would- havo to be laid up. The vessel was engaged in the coastal carryins trade, which had been classified .is most essential. Quito half the vessel's work was carrying cargo for tho general public. The hoard allowed time until tho First Division is exhausted. The case is then tu be reviewed, and the company is to show then that it has made every effort to obtain a man to take M'Donald's place.
