NEW APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
(Rec. August 19, 5.5 p.m.) London, August 17. The Press Bureau, states:—Mr. John Hodsre (Minister of Labour) has been appointed Minister of Pensions (in succession to Mr. Barnes, who replaces Mr. Arthur Henderson in tho War Cabinet). Mr. G. H. Roberta (Parliamentary Secretary to tho Board of Trade), succeeds Mr. Hodge as Minister of Labour. Brigadier-General Geddes, lato Direc-tor-General of Recruiting, becomes Minister for National Service. Mr. G. J. Wardlo (Labour M.P.) becomes Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade.—Aus.-N.Z. Mr. Noville Chamberlain, lato Director-General of National Service, resigned recently, owing, it was stated, to tho transfer 61 recruiting to, the National Service Department in a manner contrary to his suggestions. Dα July last it was reported that the National Service scheme had broken down, and was shortly to be abandoned. General Geddes's now appointment suggests that a fresh effort to organise moro effectively the nation's man-power for civilian and military service is about to bo made under one controlling authority.]
